Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya

A state university located in Lucknow, Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya (BSV) was previously known as Bhatkhande Music Institute Deemed University (2000–2022), Bhatkhande College of Hindustani Music (1966–2000), and Marris College of Music (1926–1966). Founded in 1926 by Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande, it was upgraded as a state university in 2022 by The Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya Act, 2022, and recognised as a deemed university by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2000. It provides instruction in vocal, instrumental, dance, rhythmic, musicology, research, and applied music.

History

The Marris College of Music, which was founded in 1926 by well-known classical singer and musicologist Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande and Rai Umanath Bali with assistance from Rai Rajeshwar Bali, the United Provinces' then-education minister, is where the Institute got its start. Sir William Sinclair Marris, the governor of the United Provinces at the time, officially opened the institution and named it after him.

Later, on March 26, 1966, the Uttar Pradesh government took control of the college and renamed it after its founder, Bhatkhande Music College of Hindustani Music. It is currently known as Bhatkhande Music Institute Deemed University after the Indian government designated it as such in a notification on October 24, 2000.

Courses Offered

The institute offers courses in vocal music, instrumental music, dance, musicology and research, and applied music that prepares students for the following degrees: two-year diploma in music, three-year bachelor's degree in performing arts, two-year master's degree in performing arts, and doctorate. In addition, there are programmes specifically designed for Dhrupad-Dhamar training, Thumri singing, and light classical music, which involves music direction and composition.

10+2 from any recognised institution.

Bachelors in Performing Arts (BPA)

10 + 2 or any other equivalent examination from a recognised institute.

Bachelor's degree of 3 years duration (BPA. or equivalent) from any recognised university.

Admission Process

Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya Scholarships

Merit-based scholarships for students who secure top ranks in the entrance examination.

Students who wish to apply for scholarships must complete the online scholarship application form and submit it with the necessary supporting documentation to the university. Scholarships will be given out by the institution based on need and merit after reviewing the applications. Depending on the student's academic standing and the category, different amounts of scholarships are awarded. Students could anticipate receiving a scholarship of between Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 50,000 annually on average.
