Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth

During the independence war's non-cooperation campaign, Babu Shiv Prasad Gupt and Bhagwan Das created Varanasi University on February 10, 1921. The institution was renamed Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth in 1995, after being known as Kashi Vidyapith earlier. Mahatma Gandhi attended the inaugural ceremony.

Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith is a public university in Varanasi/Benaras, Uttar Pradesh, India. Kashi Vidyapith was created in 1921 and later renamed. It is overseen by the Uttar Pradesh government's state legislative body. The university has over 350 affiliated colleges spread throughout five districts: Varanasi, Chandauli, Bhadohi, Mirzapur, and Sonbhadra.

It is one of Uttar Pradesh's major public institutions, serving hundreds of thousands of urban and rural students.
